FOUNDER, MATTER

Eric Kim

Eric Kim is the Founder of Matter and a 20-year veteran of independent-school and college admissions.

He attended Mirman School and Harvard-Westlake — two of Los Angeles’s most selective independent schools — and went on to earn a B.A. in Cognitive Science from UCLA.

Over the first decade of his career, Eric personally tutored hundreds of students; he spent the next 10+ years as the Executive Program Director and co-owner of LA Tutors 123. He has helped 100+ students place into elite independent schools including Harvard-Westlake, Marlborough, Brentwood, Polytechnic, and Flintridge Prep, and on to top universities including Harvard, Cornell, Brown, Columbia, and Georgetown.

He has been profiled in Authority Magazine on the future of American education.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Eric founded Matter to give more families access to the kind of preparation once reserved for a select few: from independent school entrance exams through college admissions, delivered by tutors he personally selects and oversees. Today Matter works with families not just in Los Angeles, but around the world.
